Results from Dowsing with Crystals – Derby Gaol 16-11-02

Explanation and prevention of fraud

Several experiments were carried out at the Gaol using crystals in an attempt to obtain answers to questions. Two or three Dowsers were working simultaneously using crystals and were positioned in such a manner that they were unable to see each other. To also eliminate any collusion or fraud, the Dowsers each randomly selected a pre-printed sheet, which showed the number of fingers they would show to their individual witnesses. Each witness had a duplicate copy of the Dowsers sheet and translated the answers back into one of the four possible answers:

Yes

No

Can’t Answer

No Answer

The questions were prepared during the evening by the members of the team not involved in dowsing to ensure the Dowsers had no prior knowledge of them. No partners were allowed to work together during these experiments.

Analysis of the first 2 sessions
From the first session using a scoring system of::
2 identical answers = 100%
1 Answer and a refusal or no answer = 50%
2 Opposite answers = 0%

From the second session using all three dowsers using a scoring system of:

3 identical answers = 100%
2 identical and a refusal or no answer = 75%
2 identical answers = 50%
1 answer and 2 refusals or no answers = 25%
No identical answers = 0%

From the second session taking the results of Dowsers A & B only, using a scoring system of::

2 identical answers = 100%
1 Answer and a refusal or no answer = 50%
2 Opposite answers = 0%

Conclusions

Although there are obvious discrepancies during session 2 it should be noted that in session 1 question 10 the two dowsers were apparently communicating with the same spirit whilst session 2 question 1 suggests that there may have been more than one spirit present. The graphs above suggest that Dowsers A and C may have been in touch with one spirit whilst Dowser B was communicating with another one.

The dowsers were all sat round a single table and asked to note any positive movement from their crystals whilst a list of executed prisoners was read out. Since none of the Dowsers knew John King who was hung in 1817, we wrongly assumed that this meant that the spirits must have been executed before him. When the following list was read out none of the Dowsers received a response.

Thomas Knowles

Lacy Powell

James Gration

John Evans

John Dent

J Mellor

J Spensor

R Boothe

J parker

Joseph West

James Tomlinson

Percival Cook

Paul Mason

Richard Herbert

We realised that, although John King may have been executed before our spirit or spirits they may not have known him therefore making the question ambiguous, so we revised the list to include people executed after him. The new list read as follows:

John Brown

Thomas Jackson

George Booth

John King

Jeremiah Brandeth

William Turner

Issac Ludlam

Thomas Hopkinson

George Batty

John Leedhan

Dowser A got an acknowledgement to William Turner.

Dowser B got an acknowledgement to George Booth.

Dowser C got an acknowledgement to both of the above names.

Let us now look at the profile of these two people:

George Booth age 21 from Chesterfield hanged for setting fire to haystacks at South Winfield in 1817 (If not arrested would have probably marched with the Pentrich Martyrs.

William Turner age 46 from South Wingfield hanged and beheaded for high treason (Pentrich Martyr).

Could the differing answers obtained from the three Dowsers have been caused by two different spirits answering? Only further investigation will tell us. Watch this space.
